Man, Woman Charged With Kidnapping After Caught In Drive-Thru

DENVER (CBS4)- A man and a woman have been charged with several counts stemming from a kidnapping at gunpoint after police spotted their vehicle in a drive-thru.

Ivan Lopez-Banuelos and Alese Sylva have been charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of second-degree kidnapping and two counts of motor vehicle theft in the first degree. Lopez-Banuelos has also been charged with three counts of possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Police said on Aug. 7 the two victims offered Sylva a ride home from a club in Denver. When they tried to drop her off in the 500 block alley between Elliot and Federal, Lopez-Banuelos approached the car with a gun. The charges allege that Lopez-Banuelos and Sylva then forced the victims to withdraw money from an ATM and then sped away in the car.

The suspects were captured a short time later whne the stolen car was spotted in a drive-thru lane at a fast food restaurant.

Both remain in custody and are set to appear in Denver Court on Aug. 14 for their second advisement.
