Man Who Robbed Pot Shop With Hammer Sentenced To Prison

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - The man armed with a hammer when he robbed an Aspen marijuana dispensary last summer has been sentenced.

Hayden May was sentenced to six months in prison on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to robbery and theft last month. He was arrested in St. Louis, Missouri in July 2015 after a police pursuit, in a stolen car with three large jars of marijuana inside.

May had gone into "Stash" in July 2015. The dispensary's owner, Garrett Pattrick, says May approached employees with a hammer and apologized for being "desperate" before taking jars of marijuana from behind the counter.

Employees at the store had apparently been friends with May and recognized him.

A judge also sentenced May to 200 hours of community service. He still faces charges in Missouri related to the police pursuit.
