Man Who Hid Gun, Shot At Officers While In Custody Gets Lengthy Prison Sentence

DENVER (CBS4) - A man has been found guilty of attempted murder and was sentenced for shooting at Denver police officers while in custody.

According to the district attorney's office, Isaac Vigil, 33, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder on April 9 in Denver District Court.

"On May 14, 2014, Vigil was arrested on a felony warrant related to drug charges and was in custody at the Denver District 4 police station when he fired a gun at police officers. Vigil was sitting in the back seat of a patrol car when he fired a gun that he had hidden," the district attorney's office said in a statement.

On Thursday Vigil was sentenced to 35 years in prison followed by five years mandatory parole.

According to court documents, Vigil told officers five or six times "I'm going to kill you" on the way to the police station. He also said, "You better have a vest on."

The court documents that revealed Vigil was picked up at a McDonald's on suspicion of being on methamphetamine. He was wanted on a nationwide felony warrant for weapons violations.
