Man Trying To Avoid Deportation Gets Support From Demonstrators

DENVER (CBS4) - A group on Wednesday gathered in front of the federal immigration court to support a father who may be separated from his family.

Arturo Hernandez has been living in the basement of a Denver church since last fall in an attempt to avoid deportation.

"Today we are hoping to mobilize the community and put more pressure on the court system and seeing if our congressional members would advocate on behalf of the individual," said Susana Sandoval, Director of Advocacy for DREAMers Moms USA.

Recently Hernandez suffered a setback when the Office of Chief Counsel decided not to join a motion to reopen his case. Supporters say his next step is to submit a stay of deportation request.
