Man Tries To Buy $9,800 Rolex Watch With Fake ID And Prepaid Credit Card

DENVER (CBS4) - A man accused of assaulting a Denver police officer has been formally charged.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Delano Medina, 31, has been charged with second-degree assault, escape, forgery and criminal attempt to commit theft.

Medina was caught allegedly trying to buy a Rolex watch with phony identification and a prepaid credit card.

"The charges allege that on December 5, 2014, at a jewelry store inside the Cherry Creek Mall, Medina tried to fraudulently purchase a $9,800 Rolex watch, assaulted an officer who confronted him, and then tried to flee the scene," Kimbrough said in a statement.

When Medina was arrested police found that he had 12 outstanding warrants for his arrest.

"The case was originally referred for possible federal charges. It was learned earlier in July that federal charges will not be filed, enabling the state to file charges today," Kimbrough said.

Medina is currently in custody on unrelated charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 28 for his second advisement on the charges.
