Man Stranded On Longs Peak Won't Have To Pay For Rescue

DENVER (CBS4) - A climber who was rescued from a ledge on Longs Peak will not be billed for the search and rescue.

Samuel Frappier, 19, had been stuck on a 13,000-foot ledge Wednesday. Authorities from Rocky Mountain National Park say because a helicopter was used in the rescue the cost will likely reach thousands of dollars.

The rescue will be covered by park service operating funds.

Frappier was flown down after spending the night on the mountain.

Search and rescue costs in Colorado are rarely billed to the person who is lost or stranded because searchers don't want people to hesitate from calling for help.
