Man shot by Colorado police after firing gun from stolen car

Three Arvada Police Department officers have been placed on paid administrative leave after reportedly returning gunfire shot at them by a person in a stolen vehicle.

That person, a male, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a department spokesman.

The officers found the car at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, according to an APD social media post. The car was in an alley off Kipling Parkway between West 58th Place and West 59th Avenue.

Evidence markers and crime scene tape are seen where Arvada Police Department officers reportedly exchanged gunfire with a male inside a stolen car early Sunday morning. The male suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.  CBS

Per APD's recounting, the male got into the car and then ignored officers' commands to get out of it. During the interaction, the man fired several rounds at officers. The male was struck by rounds fired by officers in return.

No officers were injured.
