Man Sentenced To Life In Prison In Stabbing Death
BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4)- A man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for stabbing a man to death on Thanksgiving in 2012.
Hector Alvarez-Martinon was convicted of first-degree murder after deliberation on Jan. 31.
According to evidence presented during the trial, Alvarez-Martinon, 19, was in a Cadillac Escalade with the victim, Francisco Moran, and Alex Hernandez on Nov. 22, 2012.
Hernandez was driving the Escalade when Alvarez-Martinon pulled out a screw driver and began stabbing Moran.
The attack continued at the East Gate Mobile Home Park in Brighton after Moran escaped from the SUV and tried to get away.
Moran was stabbed 64 times in the head, neck and arm. He died after he was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center.
Officers said Moran was able to identify his attacker before he lost consciousness and died.
Adams County District Judge Mark Warner called Moran's murder an act of "unparalleled violence" and "stunning brutality."
"This was a brutal and senseless crime," said District Attorney Dave Young. "The defendant now will spend the rest of his life behind bars, which is where he belongs."
Hernandez also is charged with first-degree murder in the case. His trial is set for March 3.
