Man Sentenced In Cold Case Sexual Assault

DENVER (CBS4)- A man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman in 2008 as she was walking to her home in northwest Denver has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Leonard Botello pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of sexual assault and one count of second-degree assault causing serious bodily injury.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of intensive supervised probation for sex offenders.

On Oct. 3, 2008, the 61-year-old woman was walking home when she was attacked in a park in the 4100 block of Tennyson Street. Botello had seen the victim at a bar where she was working and offered to take her home. She thought he was going to drive her but when they got outside he told her he did not have a car and would walk her home.

While they were walking he asked her for sex and when she refused he became angry and attacked her.

The case remained unsolved until Botello was identified as a suspect through a DNA match.
