Man Sentenced For Stealing Thousands From Elderly Woman He Met At Church

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - A man accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a 91-year-old woman was sentenced on Wednesday.

Pam Russell with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office said Florentine Edward Guerrero, 66, was sentenced to three years probation and eight months in the county jail work release program.

According to Russell, Guerrero met the victim at church.

"He befriended her and began driving her to and from church when she became unable to drive," Russell said in a statement. "He began having her write checks, made out to cash, and he would endorse them and take the money for his own personal use."

Russell said Guerrero would also drive the victim to her bank and have her withdraw large amounts of money for him.

The victim's sons discovered the crime when they noticed $30,000 missing from their mother's bank accounts.

Investigators were able to track Guerrero down by checks he had endorsed.
