Man Rescued After 1,500-Foot Fall On El Diente Peak

TELLURIDE, Colo. (CBS4) - An injured climber is recovering after being rescued from El Diente Peak near Telluride.

Crews conducted an unusual overnight rescue because the 60-year-old man, identified as John Rhodes from the Denver metro area, had fallen at least 1,500 feet and broke his leg.

"We were becoming increasingly concerned for his health and safety, especially with the falling temperatures and the threat for hyphermia," San Miguel County Deputy Chris White said in a statement.

Rescuers used night vision to reach the man by helicopter and he was flown out at daybreak.
