Man Pleads Guilty In Cold Case Kidnapping, Rape

DENVER (CBS4) – There was guilty plea Friday in a cold case of a kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman in 2000.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Dony Salazar, 31, pleaded guilty to second-degree kidnapping and a crime of violence.

"The victim, who was 40 at the time, was attacked while waiting at a bus stop at 38th Avenue and Tejon Street the morning of Dec. 16, 2000," Kimbrough said in a statement. "Salazar grabbed her and forced her at gunpoint into the backyard of a nearby vacant home where he repeatedly sexually assaulted her."

The case went cold but was reopened by Denver's Cold Case Project and solved through a DNA hit.

"Salazar is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for aggravated robbery," Kimbrough said.

He faces up to 40 more years in prison when he is sentenced in April.
