Man Killed In Eagle County Plane Crash Owned Aviation Company In Delta County

EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - The identity of a man who died in a plane crash in Eagle County on Friday has been released.

The coroner said Karl Hipp, 68, of Crawford, died from injuries sustained in the crash at Eagle County Regional Airport.

The small plane crashed about 4:50 p.m. during the landing. Airport officials say the Rebel experimental aircraft made impact with the runway then went airborne again before crashing into the hangar about 1,000 feet south of the runway.

A woman was seriously injured and rushed to Vail Valley Medical Center. The woman's name hasn't been released.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have taken over investigation of the crash.

According to the Vail Daily, Hipp owned Balzout Aviation which operates out a Delta County airport.
