Man Accused Of Stabbing Mother At Larimer County Courthouse

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Fort Collins are investigating a stabbing that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Dean Cunningham, just before 1 p.m. officers responded to a report of a woman cut in the neck in the parking lot of the Larimer County Courthouse Office located at 200 West Oak Street.

"When officers arrived they discovered a female with an injury to her neck," police said in a statement.

Police arrested Michael Contreras, 21, at the scene for allegedly stabbing his mother, who was transported to the Medical Center of Rockies for treatment.

"During the investigation it was determined the female is the mother of Contreras. She is expected to survive her injuries. Contreras was transported to the Larimer County Jail for suspicion of attempted murder in the first degree and first degree assault," police said.

Contreras' mother's name hasn't been released.
