Man Gets 2 Life Sentences In Blackmail Slayings In Adams County
BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for killing two teenage boys who allegedly tried to blackmail him.
William Dean Otto was also sentenced Friday in Brighton to 30 years and 18 months for several other convictions, including sexual exploitation of a child and tampering with evidence.
This week a jury convicted the 43-year-old of killing Jonathan Gonzalez and Gustavo Espinosa-Gamboa after they allegedly asked for money for a cellphone video showing him asking to perform a sexual act on one of them.
Otto's attorneys argued he killed the boys in self-defense when they tried to rob him with a knife. Otto then buried the bodies in shallow graves near the Nebraska border.
The boys' families testified that they are devastated but forgive Otto.
