Man Gets 12 Years For Crash In Avon That Killed Passenger

EAGLE, Colo. (AP) - A Pueblo man who was driving drunk and speeding when he flipped his car in Avon, killing a passenger and paralyzing another, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The Eagle County District Attorney's Office says Emanuel Villeda was sentenced Monday for the June 9 crash that killed 22-year-old Rafael Torres-Ortiz. Villeda pleaded guilty in March to vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.

Investigators say he was driving at speeds of up to 140 mph after leaving a restaurant with friends. The car flipped one and one half times before coming to a rest on its roof.

Villeda and two other passengers were seriously injured in the rollover crash, which wasn't reported until the next day when a morning commuter discovered the wreckage with people pinned inside.
