Man Files Lawsuit Over Getting Shot By Deputy During Traffic Stop

DENVER (CBS4) - A man claims he was shot by police before he had a chance to react, and now he's filed a lawsuit.

A sheriff's deputy stopped Cody Cox for drunk driving last January on Interstate 70 in Clear Creek County. Cox's lawsuit claims he was stopped in bumper-to-bumper traffic when deputy Devin Klaus pulled his gun and immediately shot him.

Cox was hit in the neck and is now a paraplegic. At the time the sheriff's office said Klaus fired because Cox tried to escape and hit another car. Cox claims that's not true and says he hit the car after Klaus shot him.
