Man, Daughter Celebrate Father's Day Dressing Up At Comic Con

DENVER (CBS4) - On this Father's Day a lot of dads got the day off to relax, but one father spent the day with his daughter and a whole bunch of comic book characters.

Among the storm troopers, superheroes and others at Denver Comic Con Sunday was a father-daughter duo unlike any other.

"Yeah, we watch a lot of cartoons together, a lot of movies," Todd Steward said.

Steward and his 7-year-old daughter Olivia are no strangers to dressing up together for events like Comic Con. Last year they both donned Jedi costumes.

"Now that I get to share this with my daughter," Steward said. "It's just a lot of fun."

This year Olivia was a Valkyrie, a Norse mythology character popular in the Thor superhero universe.

"Who doesn't want to be a super hero for a day, right?" Steward said.

Olivia even won first place at Denver's recent Star Fest costume contest.

Steward said that in addition to letting Olivia enjoy herself, he hopes portraying strong female characters will help her as she grows -- both for fun, and in life.

"A sense of confidence that I think she'll take with her for the rest of her life," he said.
