Man Convicted Of Attempted Murder

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4)- A man convicted of attempted murder for his involvement in a gang-related shooting was sentenced to more than 40 years in prison.

Richard Villa was sentenced to 43 years in prison in Greeley on Friday.

He was convicted in March of criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder and first-degree assault in connection to a shooting during a gang-related confrontation outside a home during a child's birthday on July 4, 2013.

A judge sentenced Villa to 40 years for those crimes and added a three year prison sentence for a 2012 felony menacing conviction. Villa was on probation in that case when the shooting occurred.

Villa's brother, Omar Villa, pleaded guilty to accessory to a crime in connection with the July 4, 2013 shooting. He will be sentenced June 24.
