Man Convicted Of 1st Degree Murder In Jewelry Store Slaying

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4)- A man accused of murdering a jewelry store owner in Commerce City has been convicted.

Anton Valdez was convicted of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and conspiracy in the death of Bernardo Saenz.

Saenz was shot to death May 17, 2012 during a robbery of La Joyeria jewelry store located at 5908 E. 64th Ave. in Commerce City.

According to evidence presented at trial Saenz was shot four times at close range when he came from a back room in the store after he heard a glass jewelry case being broken.

Valdez, 23, was convicted as charged with first-degree murder after deliberation, first-degree felony murder, two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Valdez will be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Adams County Court.
