Man Arrested On Drug Charges After Friend's Death

DENVER (CBS4)- A man from Texas has been formally charged after police say he came to Colorado to help a friend buy marijuana to take back to Texas.

Brandon Davis has been charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and conspiracy.

On Aug. 2, Davis flagged down Denver police officers at a motel near Interstate 70 and Federal Boulevard because he told them he couldn't wake his friend who had fallen asleep in the car the night before.

Officers discovered that Nicholas Smith, 23, was dead. In the course of investigating his death, detectives found bags of marijuana and a large amount of cash in Smith and Davis' motel room.

The charges allege that Davis was in possession of approximately two pounds of marijuana and that he had conspired with Smith to take the marijuana to Texas to sell it.

Davis has been released from custody on $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Denver Court on Aug. 18 at 1:30 p.m. to be formally advised of the charges.
