Man Accused Of Swinging Hammer At Officer Formally Charged

DENVER (CBS4) – A man accused of attacking a police officer with a deadly weapon has been formally charged.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Robert Bemoras, 50, is charged with attempted first-degree assault on a peace officer, menacing and three counts of third-degree assault on a peace officer for the incident that occurred on July 11.

"Bemoras is accused of causing a disturbance at a grocery store at 1111 South Washington Street, and was contacted by the police and asked to leave the location," Kimbrough said in a statement. "Bemoras became irate and pointed a knife at the officer."

Kimbrough said Bemoras then allegedly dropped the knife, "punched the officer in the face and pulled out a hammer and swung it at the officer."

Bemoras is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for his second advisement of the charges.
