Man Accused Of Stealing Garbage Truck Arrested

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Police have arrested a 26-year-old man accused of stealing a garbage truck in Boulder and leading officers on a slow-speed chase.

Police spokeswoman Kim Kobel says Daniel Morkert stole the truck at about 3 p.m. Wednesday and drove it onto U.S. 36. The Western Disposal worker had left his keys in the vehicle and was emptying trash when it was stolen.

Kobel says officers placed "stop sticks" on the highway and followed Morkert at about 30 mph until he exited and crashed over a median in Broomfield. He faces charges of auto theft, careless driving and eluding a police officer.

No one was hurt in the chase.
