Man, 61, Killed In Walmart Parking Lot Shooting

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A 61-year-old man was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Walmart in Aurora Monday night.

The shooting happened at 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of Parker Road and Florida Avenue.

Police say someone who was at the scene of the crime has been detained, but they are not saying if that person is a suspect. Witnesses told officers there was one shooter.

Arapahoe County Sheriff's spokesman Vince Line said officers from the Aurora Police Department and Denver police assisted them with their investigation.

"As you can imagine, anytime we get a call like this where there's a victim down, especially at an intersection that's similar to the one at Parker and Florida where this one occurred -- there's a lot going on at that intersection -- so it takes a lot of resources in order to control the environment, set up a good crime scene in order to conduct an adequate investigation," Line said.

Line said they don't believe there is a threat to the public following the shooting.

On Tuesday morning large sections of the shopping complex where the shooting happened remained closed off with crime tape.
