Lightning Strikes, Starts Fire At Apartment Building
DENVER (CBS4)- Lightning is believed to have started a fire at a condominium complex in Denver on Friday afternoon.
Denver Firefighters rushed to a building in the Tall Pines Condo complex at 3656 S. Depew Street about 1:45 p.m. along with West Metro Firefighters.
The lighting is believed to have struck the roof of the three-story apartment building and set it on fire.
Neighbors said they heard two loud booms and then heard sirens.
"Just really loud... I heard windows crashing," said witness Kris Barman.
"I heard a big loud crack and I noticed about 10 minutes later smoke coming out of the building and by the time I went out, two fire trucks were already here," said witness Richard Rainey.
The lightning happened while severe storms and heavy rain were moving over the Denver metro area.
"It does have a little bit of a different dynamic because it has the potential to get into the roof and make it a little more hazardous for our firefighters," said Denver Fire Department spokesman C.J. Haberkorn.
No one was injured. Neighbors told CBS4 the woman who lives in the unit wasn't home at the time of the fire.
