Lightning Strikes Home, Family Escapes Unharmed

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A family in Colorado Springs escaped unharmed after lightning hit their home and started a fire.

The family heard the storm roll in Monday night but then a crash woke them up a little after 10 p.m. They didn't realize how close the lightning came to causing serious injuries until a neighbor showed up at their door.

"My neighbor next door came over to let us know that there was a fire in the back and got in the car and within about five minutes the firemen arrived," said the homeowner, who didn't want to be identified. "And went ahead and worked about two hours putting the fire out."

The family escaped unharmed along with their dog. The fire destroyed a large section of the home, the roof and the room they were sleeping in.
