Light Rail Train Jumps Tracks At Mineral Station, Delays In Place

DENVER (CBS4) - A Regional Transportation District light rail train derailed at the end of its line Sunday evening. It happened at 9 p.m. when the train was at the end of its route at the Mineral station.

No one was on board and there are no injuries. Electric wires fell across the tracks in the crash.

"The operator was shaken up … the wires are electric. We are asking people not to be in the vicinity of that station," said RTD spokesman Nate Currey.

RTD officials are investigating the cause of the crash, and trains stopped running to the station while the wires were removed from the tracks.

Small delays are expected for Monday morning.

Littleton Mineral was opened at 7 a.m. for C and D lines. Delays were expected for the next hour as trains get back on schedule.
