Lifeguards In Golden Honored For Saving Toddler

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - Lifeguards who saved a toddler at a public pool in July were honored by city officials and firefighters on Friday.

An 18-month-old boy was playing in a pool at Splash Aquatic Park on July 11 when a lifeguard noticed he was lying motionless in the water. He said he thought the boy was playing until he noticed his body started to turn blue.

After he blew his whistle, approximately a dozen lifeguards assisted in the rescue.

Despite training and some previous rescues under his belt, one lifeguard who was honored said real life-saving situations are always harrowing.

"I've always told myself if anything like that did happen, I would like to be prepared," Alan Guzman said. "But when you actually have it happen, you're in complete disbelief. I didn't know what would happen to him."

The boy, who will turn 2 in October, is doing fine, his mom said.
