Life Sentence Handed Down For Father Who Ordered Son To Kill

DENVER (CBS4) - Jurors on Friday convicted a father who coerced his son into killing a man in 2013.

Daryl Thompson, 44, was charged with first-degree murder, witness intimidation and accessory to crime in the death of 37-year-old Charles Harris. He will serve life in prison with parole.

His son, Daryl Thompson Jr., 20, pleaded guilty in December to second-degree murder and agreed to testify at his father's trial.

On April 24, 2013, the Thompsons were involved in an altercation with Harris, who was gunned down a short time later when the pair approached him near 38th Avenue and Grape Street. Thompson then ordered his son to shoot him.

Thompson Jr. faces up to 48 years in prison when he is sentenced this month.
