Less Fortunate Children Get A Chance To Christmas Shop For Their Parents
DENVER (CBS4) - At the Denver Rescue Mission children played Santa and went shopping for their parents on Saturday.
Clad in a Buzz Lightyear t-shirt and Dr. Seuss backpack, Giovanni went shopping. He was just one of about 70 kids who took part in the Cherry Hill Community Church annual Christmas store.
"The kids get to shop for their parents," Alexxa Gagner with the Denver Rescue Mission said.
The event is for kids of families staying at The Crossing, a residential community run by the Denver Rescue Mission.
"Families here at The Crossing are in transition, meaning they are coming from a variety of places," Gagner said. "They may have been staying in cars, staying with friends, in motels."
Organizers say during what can be the stressful holiday season they want to put the focus on the importance of giving back.
"What Cherry Hills is trying to do is instill giving in the kids," Gagner said.
Volunteers also help kids make cards, ornaments, and even wrap their parents' gifts for them. So as the holiday approaches each child can not only get something, but also give something this Christmas.
