Lawyer For Man In Clinic Attack Wants To Bar Publicity

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Defense attorneys for the man accused of killing three people at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood clinic want a judge to limit what law enforcement and attorneys can say about the case.

In court documents released Tuesday, Deputy State Public Defender Rosalie Roy says the shooting has already generated negative publicity. She says it will keep 57-year-old Robert Lewis Dear from getting a fair trial with impartial jurors.

A judge told Dear he faces first-degree murder charges in the Friday attack. Colorado Springs police have refused to disclose a motive and have released few details of their investigation.

The defense request seeks to bar police, attorneys and court employees from releasing information about the case. A judge already granted prosecutors' request to seal Dear's arrest affidavit and a search warrant.
