Lawmakers To Discuss Eliminating Some Standardized Tests

DENVER (CBS4) - Standardized tests face their own test at the state Capitol on Thursday.

The question of whether standardized tests are effective measures of learning have long been controversial. Now some are questioning if there are just too many tests.

Some educators say all of the testing impacts how much time they have left to teach students other subject matter.

A bill that would eliminate statewide tests that are not required federally will be debated in the Senate Education Committee on Thursday. It would also repeal the requirement that the state board adopt postsecondary and workforce planning and preparation assessments.

Gov. John Hickenlooper has said that he favors the idea of possibly reducing some of the statewide standardized tests.
