Laundromat Burglary Suspect Captured After Short Pursuit

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man who robbed a laundromat and then tried to drive away.

An employee at the Grimebusters Laundromat called 911 to report a burglary in progress inside of the business at 9083 W. Peakview Avenue at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.

As deputies arrived on scene, they saw a man leaving the parking lot in a van. The suspect drove directly at one of the deputies, intentionally striking the side of his patrol car.

The suspect, later identified as Nicholas Vaughn, also struck three other vehicles in the neighborhood during his attempted escape.

The pursuit finally ended near the 9500 block of W. Coalmine Avenue when Vaughn, 28, drove into a dead end cul-de-sac. He was removed from the vehicle at gunpoint but failed to comply with commands made by patrol deputies. Vaughn was eventually tased and taken into custody without further incident.

Vaughn was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Facility for first-degree burglary, attempted first-degree assault of a peace officer, felony vehicular eluding and violation of bail bond. He remains in custody.
