Bitterly Cold Temperatures & Heavy Snow
DENVER (CBS4) - Snow is going strong in Colorado, and will only intensify overnight. Snow will continue to pile up through Thursday morning, which most likely means a very messy commute to work.
Winter Storm Warnings are in place for the Front Range and foothills, 6 to 12 inches of snow possible through 11:00 am Thursday. Colorado's high country is also under Winter Storm Warnings for really good snow totals. A lot has already fallen, but storm totals could top from 15 to 30 inches in our central and southern mountains. The northern mountains could see 10 to 20 inches. Northwestern Colorado could pick up another foot of snow.
This is a strong, moisture filled storm. It will continue to pump moisture right at us and the jet stream is parked over Colorado. The jet stream will sink south of Colorado by Thursday evening, taking most of the snow with it. Snowy conditions will continue in southern Colorado through Friday.
The other aspect of this storm is the bitter, Arctic cold. Temperatures drop below zero tonight, with a Wind Chill Advisory for Yuma, Kit Carson, and Cheyenne counties. Pets inside tonight, it's going to be a cold one.
Tomorrow our highs are only in the single digits with another very cold, subzero night ahead. We do recover a bit with drier conditions on Friday. We'll be much warmer by the end of the weekend.
