A Little Relief From The Heat Coming
DENVER (CBS4) - Sunday was the hottest day of the year so far for Denver! But, believe it or not we did not set a record. Denver International Airport made it to 97 degrees. The old record was 99 set in 2013. Close but, no cigar. If it makes you feel any cooler. We were not the hottest in the state on Sunday. Pueblo, La Junta and Lamar all made it into the triple digits again!
Unfortunately, the combination of heat, wind and low humidity really kicked up the fire danger to finish the weekend. One wildfire broke out near Bennett east of Denver. Thick black smoke could be seen from many metro locations.
Along with the wind and heat, as well as our growing drought, the fire danger will continue into the evening.
That means current fires could take off and spread quickly, and new fires could grow rapidly if they start.
There is a little bit of relief in sight as a trough of low pressure passes to the north of Colorado tonight and tomorrow. It will drag a cold front through the state as it passes by.
We should probably call it a cool front instead of cold front because our temperatures will still remain above normal for this time of year behind it.
Unfortunately it is a dry front with only a slim chance to see a shower or thunderstorm on the far eastern plains.
