Wind Whipping Up Before Weekend Cool Down

By Chris Spears

DENVER (CBS4) - A strong ridge of high pressure over the southwest and a strong jet stream over the northern Rockies will create a strong wind event over the mountains of Colorado. There is a High Wind Warning for the Front Range Mountains where a few gusts may get into hurricane force territory.

In addition we still anticipate mild temperatures on Friday. That, combined with our recent dry conditions, means elevated fire danger, especially in south-central Colorado.

A few cold fronts are still expected over the weekend and that will mean a return of the arctic cold along with a slight chance for some New Year's Eve snow.
