Wicked Winds Will Slowly Get Better

By Lauren Whitney

DENVER (CBS4) -

What a windy day! My goodness, the winds were relentless on Monday! We had gusts top almost 80 mph in parts of the Front Range.

Fire danger was high all day with these winds and low humidity. We also felt so much cooler thanks to the wind chill these winds created.

The strongest wind gust clocked in Colorado through the early afternoon on Monday was 79 mph at the Applewood Golf Course on the far east side of Golden. That's the equivalent of a Category 1 hurricane.

Winds will still stay strong overnight and into Tuesday, however they will be drastically calmer than Monday. Highs on Tuesday remain in the 40s, but we'll be warmer again by Wednesday and could even see the 60s again on Thursday.
