Record Breaking Temperatures Before Cool Down
DENVER (CBS4) - We officially hit 90 degrees in Denver on Thursday. Not only did this break the daily record high of 86° for May 10, last set in 1991. This was also first 90 so far this year, the fourth earliest on record, and the first 90 degree mark in May since 2012.
Grand Junction also broke a daily record high by hitting 90 degrees as well on Thursday.
The heat won't be lasting for long. A cold front will move through early on Friday morning, and this will start to bit of a cooler period for us. We'll drop to the upper 70s on Friday, then the 60s on Saturday.
A few isolated thunderstorms are possible on Friday afternoon and evening. Some of these storms in northeastern Colorado could potentially turn severe, with hail and wind the biggest threats. We could still see thunderstorms and rain showers on Saturday, with the chance for fog on Saturday morning.
Mother's Day will bring us some sunshine, but there will still be plenty of clouds. Highs head back to the low 70s. A few isolated thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening.
