Cooler With Severe Storms Possible

By Dave Aguilera

DENVER (CBS4) - We have a small break in the heat to finish out the weekend. Saturday's high temperature at DIA was 99 degrees and Sunday will be about 10 degrees cooler with a cold front draped over the eastern plains.

Despite the cold front in place there is still a good flow of moisture pumping up from the south and southwest from the summer monsoon flow. This will help to get thunderstorms going again for Sunday afternoon. There is a chance over all of eastern Colorado that some of the storms that develop could be severe with heavy rain and strong gusty winds being the main threat.

The heat will return for the first half of the week ahead. Back to the 90s and 100s over eastern areas of the state through mid-week with small chances for cooling late day rains.
