Weekend To Begin With Arctic Air & Snow

DENVER (CBS4) - An arctic front moved into the Front Range this morning and brought low clouds, fog, flurries, wind and drizzle.
For a brief time it created travel problems at Denver International Airport.

Daytime heating this afternoon is pushing the cold air back out to the northeast and as a result we are seeing a wide variety of temperatures over very short distances, ranging from the 50s in Douglas County to the teens just northeast of Denver.
Shallow cold air is dense and likes to hang in valleys.
Overnight more cold air will once again move into the Front Range and this time it will be deeper, meaning it should make it into the higher elevations.
At the same time an area of low pressure will move into Colorado on Saturday from the northwest. It will combine with the new shot of cold air to bring us a chance for snow statewide.
It's a minor storm because it's moving so fast. On average we should see 1-3" in Denver and on the plains with 3-6" in the mountains. (of course isolated higher or lower pockets will exist as usual due to our terrain)
By Sunday skies will be partly to mostly sunny with warmer temperatures back in our forecast.
