Wicked Winds Whipping This Weekend

By Lauren Whitney
DENVER (CBS4) -

Our snow on Thursday night made for quite an icy commute on Friday morning. It took a bit, but we did eventually make it to the low 40s here in Denver.

Denver officially received 0.2" of snow Thursday night, but many neighborhoods saw at least an inch and up to 3" fell in the foothills and along the Palmer Divide.

That snow combined with a little high cloud cover will hinder our heating this afternoon with most places topping off somewhere between the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Now, we'll be warming up even more as we head into the weekend. Highs on Saturday will reach the mid 50s, with the mid 60s on Sunday!

Winds are going to be a big issue for the foothills and high country this weekend. We have a High Wind Warning through Sunday, as winds could top 85 mph.

Then everything changes early next week with a cold front arriving on Monday, snow reaching the metro area by Monday night, and bitterly cold temperatures returning for Tuesday. We'll be cool most of next week as we head to the final weekend of February.
