Larimer County Sheriff's Website Under Attack
LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Hackers are going after the Larimer County Sheriff's Department and now the website has been shut down until further notice.
The department's site was hacked twice last week.
"The investigator is working jointly with both the Denver and the Loveland offices of the FBI," David Moore with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office said.
The first hack occurred on March 1 and the second on Friday.
Users can still get most of the information they need on the county's website, but they can't access the sheriff's Most Wanted list until they get the full site up and running again.
Moore says they first need to figure out where the attack is coming from.
Deputies don't yet know what the motive behind the attacks may be. They've been limited to the website and are not impacting deputies ability to carry out their duties.
"It would be speculation to guess on a motive, so we really don't have a clue at this point," Moore said. "It's still too early in the investigation to determine that."
The sheriff's office hopes to have its site back up and running by the end of the weekend.
