Lakewood Police Locate Suspect In Motel Stabbing

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Lakewood have a arrested a man in connection with the stabbing of a woman at a motel.

According to Steve Davis with Lakewood police, Leonard Paul Martinez, 21, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and domestic violence.

Davis said in a statement that officers responded to a motel located in the 6600 block of West Mississippi Avenue on Wednesday evening on a report of a stabbing.

"Upon arrival police found a female who had sustained life-threatening stab wounds. The female was transported to an area hospital where she remains. Detectives believe that the female and her boyfriend were involved in some type of a domestic violence incident," Davis said.

Investigators determined that Martinez was a strong person of interest in the stabbing and obtained an arrest warrant. He was taken into custody on Friday afternoon.

Davis said Martinez's first court appearance is likely next week.
