Lakewood Motorcycle Officer Seriously Injured In Crash

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- A Lakewood police motorcycle officer was seriously hurt when he was struck by a vehicle on Thursday afternoon.

The officer was on riding his police motorcycle when he responded to another officer's request for assistance. The officer was using emergency lights and siren when he was struck in the eastbound lanes of Colfax Avenue just east of Pierce Street.

The officer was struck by a vehicle also traveling eastbound when the driver pulled from the center lane to the right. The impact forced the motorcycle to leave the road and the officer was thrown several feet.

The nine-year police veteran suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. His injuries are considered non-life threatening.

The driver of the other vehicle was not cited or injured. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved but will await toxicology tests before making their final determination.

Eastbound Colfax Avenue was closed near the intersection during accident investigation and cleanup.
