Lakewood Man Faces Murder Charge In Mother's Death

GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — A Lakewood man is facing murder and assault charges in the death of his 65-year-old mother.

The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office says 41-year-old Timothy John Baca appeared in court Friday and was formally advised that he faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree assault and evidence tampering.

He also faces five counts of committing a violent crime, which could increase his sentence if he's convicted.

He hasn't entered a plea. Online jail records didn't list his attorney's name.

Police say Baca lived with his mother, Bernice Madina, in her Lakewood home. She was found dead March 28.

An arrest warrant affidavit says Baca told officers his mother was possessed by demons.

Baca is being held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court May 29 for a preliminary hearing.
