Contract For King Soopers Union Workers Approved
DENVER (AP) - Union workers for King Soopers and its sister chain City Market have approved a new contract following contentious negotiations and the threat of a strike.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 announced Thursday night that members who work for the grocery chains "overwhelmingly" supported a three-year deal the union says will bring about solid wage increases and stable health care costs. The union did not release a breakdown of the vote.
The Denver Post reports the deal was struck in the last week of March after months of negotiating and public posturing.
King Soopers/City Market, a local subsidiary of Ohio-based grocer Kroger, employs about 23,000 workers statewide. The union represents about 12,000 of them.
