'Kinda Pulling Guard' Says Vet Protecting New U.S. Flag After Burning At City Hall

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - A group of 15 people stayed up all night standing guard over a new American flag after someone burned the flag outside the Colorado Springs City Hall.

The burned flag was discovered on the City Hall lawn 5 a.m. Tuesday. The city replaced the flag later in the day.

"We're just here kinda pulling guard on the (new) flag, making sure nobody comes and messes with it tonight, or the next night, the night after that -- whole week, every night, just to get our point across," Army veteran Travis Weston said.

According to KKTV in Colorado Springs, other supporters brought the guardsmen energy drinks and Mountain Dew to help them stay awake.

Police have been working to identify the person or people who desecrated the flag, but police said nothing was caught on surveillance cameras.

Weston was the last to leave his post Wednesday morning.
