'Kill The Streets' Motorcycle Event Causes Delays

DENVER (CBS4) - If you were driving around the Denver metro area on Sunday chances are you saw hundreds of bikers on highways and surface streets.
It was all part of Kill the Streets, a yearly event motorcyclists say is meant to honor riders killed on the road.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says there have been at least 58 motorcyclist deaths in 2016 alone, up 14 percent from this time last year.
Of the 58 motorcyclists killed, 34 were not wearing helmets.
"Some people are drunk driving, or under the influence of marijuana or other substances, and they don't watch out for us," said Ricky Jaramillo. "We try to take care of ourselves, and cars should, too."
On Sunday bikers from around the state cruised through parts of Stapleton, Centennial, and downtown Denver, causing delays and shutting down highways.
"There were like hundreds of them just going down the road," said Casey Handley. "It's awesome how all these people get together to do this. It's crazy."
Even though some drivers didn't mind the show, others disagree.
While Denver police say reckless driving, whether on two wheels or four, is against the law, some bikers say they just want to make themselves known on the roads.
"A lot of times people don't see us, but when we're in numbers, they have no choice," said Joel Canales.
