Kentucky Man Falls 50 Feet, Becomes Latest Hiking Death In Colorado

GUNNISON, Colo. (CBS4)- A man from Kentucky fell to his death while hiking in Colorado's mountains.

Joseph Combs was hiking with two others when he fell about 50 feet off a cliff near the town of Almont, south of Crested Butte, in an are called Harmels.

Combs was in his early 20s. The Gunnison County Sheriff said Combs was the first deadly fall this year.

Alpine Rescue told CBS4 their crews were called to help with five rescues last weekend along the Front Range. There were six rescues in Pitkin County. Experts say August is typically their busiest month for rescues.
