Bond Set For Kelly Turner, Mother Of Colorado Make-A-Wish Girl
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - A $250,000 bond has been set for Kelly Turner. She is charged with the murder of her daughter Olivia Gant. Turner had claimed her daughter had a terminal illness and had raised money through GoFundMe and other means. Olivia died in 2017.
The daughter was also benefited by the Make-A-Wish foundation, police and fire departments.
A former friend from Texas was among those in the courtroom and not happy.
"This bond $250,000 is ludicrous. I feel for you all if she gets out in this area," Ruby King told reporters. "I think she's pitiful she sits up there thinking she is innocent. She is sick."
The Make a Wish Foundation put on a bat princess party for Olivia to fulfill a dying wish. Police welcomed her as one of their own, and so too firefighters.
King said she and her church were deceived by Turner.
"You can't believe anything she has said. Everything she has said has not been the truth of what we found out."
In a Douglas County District Court hearing, Turner's lawyer said they had 20 doctors lined up to counter the prosecution's doctors.
Turner is also charged with theft, charitable fraud, forgery and attempt to influence a public servant.
The investigation into how Olivia died began after doctors at Children's Hospital Colorado became suspicious when Turner brought in her older daughter because of "bone pain."
Olivia's body was exhumed from her grave. An autopsy was performed, but the cause of death was inconclusive.
Turner was being held without bond for 93 days. An arraignment has been set for Feb. 28.
